Jan To April 2015 – 12 Weeks
SBS Asbestos completed a twelve week project on a planned roof refurbishment for JD Williams. The team began work on Briar Mills Bury after being awarded the job as a result of a three stage competitive tender, plus a final stage presentation.
The roof of the mill was in desperate need of refurbishment due to water ingress and the client needed to ensure all equipment, clothing and stock were kept dry. Working 24 hours, the mill is where all clothing ranges are distributed and could not be disrupted. A team of eight roofers were therefore dispatched to quickly and efficiently install an Alumasc Derbigum torch-applied flat roofing system over 6000 square meters of the mill roof.
The team worked hard to overcome any potential problems that came with the install and ensure it was completed with minimal disturbance to the client. For example, all materials were hoisted to the very high level roofs of the working mill using cranes during the night and quieter weekend periods. Plus, extensive planning and liaison with mill staff ensured carefully segregated working areas.
Graham Tunstall, the project manager from JD Williams, commented on how well organised the team were, and was impressed with the level of forward planning that ensured no disruption or down time to the factory. Based on the team’s high quality performance, SBS has negotiated an additional re-roofing with JD Williams.
